Our story
Hello everyone,
I am Alice, founder of this little piece of paradise. In 2020, I decided to leave our beautiful Rome to settle here, in Sardinia and radically change my life.
In 2022, I got gifted a goat, Pinettu, that I named after the typical shepherd hut that stands in the center of our refuge. Unfortunately, this little goat left us only after two weeks because she got separated from its mother too soon.
In Sardinia, there exists the «Sa Paradura », terminology that describes the mutual help between Sardinian people provide when farmers lose their land or cattle so they can bounce back. I didn’t feel like a farmer after having only one goat, of course, but everyone who learnt about my story and my pain came directly to me to give me an animal, and I don’t know how it happened but we have now more than 150!
Here, we value freedom! It can be a hard sacrifice because we had to find ways for them to coexist. But this sacrifice is worth it and provides great happiness seeing goats running free when they were destined to the slaughterhouse. Each animal, even a hen or a chick, has the right to be taken care of to guarantee them a honorable life.
Here, all the animals have their own identity, their dignity and overall, a story to tell. Here in the refuge, you will hear love stories just by looking in the animals’ eyes.
Welcome to the Refuge Domo Mea,
Welcome to my home.
